The Montrose Singles Group has a long history. Three people Jim
Guy, Karen Griggs and Nancy Talbott started the group in Oct
1980, the original name was Solitary Souls, in May of 1982 the
name was changed to CSRO, and in Jan of 2005 the name was
changed to Montrose Singles. These three singles were assisted
by Dick Dunn, who had himself become single after a divorce and
at this time he discovered the need for a place for singles to meet
and developed a singles program to start singles groups and went
all over the US doing this. The Solitary Souls was the fourth group
he helped start. The very first meeting was the discussion “Being
Single”. The group started by having discussions and a Halloween
Party. Later added in was covered dish dinners, speakers,
concerts, plays, roller-skating, game nights and more. Some of
these activities and more are still done today.

There were a few years in the 1990’s and 2000’s that the group
did not have any meetings because of not having anyone to lead the

The Montrose Singles still meets on Friday nights from 8 to 10 p.
m. The age range usually runs from the 50’s through the 60’s with
some people older than that. The attendance at the meetings run
from 10 to 65 people, it just depends on what we are doing, the
time of year and weather conditions. It is indeed a great group of
people that are a lot of fun to be around. And there have been 6
marriages and many people dating over the years.
